中共總書記習近平在十九大開幕會上發表政治報告，當中提及多個富中國特色的詞彙，如「打鐵還需自身硬」、「全面從嚴治黨」等。不過，相關用語微言大義，到底應如何正確翻譯，以傳遞背後的意思呢？
內地官媒周三（18日）公布了報告內其中10句字句的英譯版本，比如官方高度關注的反貪反腐常提及的「打虎」，被翻譯為「take out tigers」；會上多番重申的「全面從嚴治黨」，則譯作「Seeing Party self-governance exercised fully and with rigor」。
據了解，是次為提升報告的外文翻譯品質，當局特別邀請了來自英國、加拿大、西班牙等多名外籍專家，參與大會報告外文譯本的核稿潤色工作。負責把報告翻譯成英文的專家桃李舉例指，報告提及的「新時代中國特色社會主義」，除字面上的意思，並包括對未來許願的「偉大思想」，「我理解它們將在未來很多年產生深遠影響」
報告中10個用詞的英譯版本：
－新時代中國特色社會主義
英譯：Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
－不忘初心，方得始終
英譯：Never forget why you started, and your mission can be accomplished.
－登高望遠，居安思危
英譯：Aim high and look far, be alert to dangers even in times of calm.
－全面從嚴治黨
英譯：Seeing Party self-governance exercised fully and with rigor.
－堅持反腐敗無禁區、全覆蓋、零容忍
英譯：No place has been out of bounds, no ground left unturned, and no tolerance shown in the fight against corruption.
－堅定不移「打虎」、「拍蠅」、「獵狐」
英譯：We have taken firm action to “take out tigers”, “swat flies” and “hunt down foxes”.
