Stockemer 現職渥太華大學政治系副教援，研究領域包括政治參與和政治代表性，亦有涉足歐洲右翼極端主義；《The Front National in France》是他第三本獨立著作。
2011年瑪麗勒龐從父親老勒龐(Jean-Marie Le Pen) 手上接棒，不足七年間，國民陣線無論在形象、黨員及支持者數目、選舉得票和議席上都壯大了勢力。作者嘗試透過一個需求供應框架，分析政黨於這兩個時代的延續性和變化－所謂「供應」指(1) 國民陣線的意識形態及(2) 兩位勒龐的領導風格和領導層；「需求」指(3) 政黨黨員和(4) 支持者。
在供應層面的展述上Stockemer 多參考及分析前人文獻，無甚驚喜；最有趣－或最「具人性」－的是有關黨員的部分。他於2013年於法國進行了七個月實地考察，訪查國民陣線的黨員，分析他們的背景，價值觀及經歷－告別大量的學術，選舉運動，新聞稿，數據參考，回歸「普通人」有血有肉的心路歷程。
但我對作者部分的論述留有保留。在分析意識形態的部分，有關法國世俗主義(secularism) 的闡釋是不全面的；他指責瑪麗勒龐扭曲世俗主義，以推行反社群主義(communitarianism) 的主張－但卻完全忽略了法國奉行普世主義(universalism) 的社會傳統。尤其議題是今日國民陣線的皇牌之一，著實有必要更準確和清晰地分析。另外，近兩任總統薩爾科齊和奧朗德的部分言論及政策(如伊斯蘭罩袍禁令，國家認同問題辯論，布堅尼爭議) 如何把法國推右，提供了極端右翼成長的土壤，本書亦沒有提供任何提示；上述主題都在國內掀起廣泛爭議，若多加著墨，不但更全面，也使文章更顯timely。
最後，本書是一種描述性研究，作者嘗試回答了what，how 等既問題，對於why 既答案並不多；這不是缺點，也是學術專業－不(故意) 混淆關聯性和因果性，這點我們閱讀時也當注意，尤其是統計數據。儘管有不全面的地方，但本書已為國民陣線的過渡提供了頗為清晰的論述，結構亦嚴謹，而且文字非常顯淺(雖然有時略嫌重複)，適合對歐洲政治及時事有興趣的人。

其實marine le pen進行既所謂去妖魔化(漂白) 係形式多於內容: 不反猶, 同媒體打好關係等. 佢老豆堅持國民陣線無論主張同論述(discourse)都要走偏峰, 唔可以同建制一樣; 個女雖然內容無點變, 都冇所謂”溫和”咗, 但識用法國republican value包裝: eg 講反回教係以世俗主義論述

A topic that gains more attention in Marine le Pen’s project is the notion of laıcité . The party dedicates one of the 16 pages in its programme to the topic. What comes to the fore in the FN’s discussion of the term is that the concept’s republican meaning—the regulation of the relationship between state and church and the guarantee of independence of the former from the latter—is depleted in the FN’s usage of it. Under the banner of laıcité, the FN opposes affirmative action programmes and communitarianism . It also decries the spread of Islam , which, according to the party, is an inherently dangerous religion that does not respect the separation between state and church. Hence, the FN instrumentalizes the republican term laıcité to oppose all forms of community other than the nation (see also Almeida 2013: 172).
